Tried to download http://www.archive.org/download/till_the_clouds_roll_by/till_the_clouds_roll_by.mpeg today. (Details page at http://www.archive.org/details/till_the_clouds_roll_by) The Firefox download status and progress display shows the correct total size of the file that is downloading (4GB), but the download consistently stops at about 23MB, and the server tells Firefox that the download is complete. I've had no trouble downloading other files from IA today, including the 512Kb MPEG4 of this film. Might this be a server error that needs attention from the system administrators? Thanks for looking into it.

I've run into that problem a few times. Sometimes it helps to just download a few other items and come back to this one another day. That's worked for me.

Thanks for the tip, but it's still broken. It also looks like I'm not the only one having this problem-- it was already reported here on the forums on March 24th. Oh well, I guess there's no one who could do something about this, who cares enough to bother with it. What a shame...

There is always that possibility. Save the link for the odd chance that the problem might get fixed. I've ran into a few of these files and some times it took a long time but I got them downloaded eventually. Another thing you might try is another browser option. I have Firefox but I never really use it, just plain old Internet Explorer seems to work for me. Try something like that and see what happens. Accoring to the post on your link, Splue downloaded it successfully so you might get it by "going in through another door".

Tried a different browser (lynx, a text-mode browser that's great for use on questionable sites because it doesn't support all those whiz-bang features that make graphical browsers vulnerable to so many exploits). That got me past the 23MB "barrier," but the download still "completed" before the entire file was transferred. So, I tried a more aggressive download utility (not curl; I'll try that next time), which finally got it. When downloading gets to be like pulling teeth, I guess one has to go looking for a bigger pair of pliers. :) Thanks for the suggestions.
